I saw a recipe in the newspaper today for chocolate chai pudding. I’d never heard of such a thing before, but I thought it sounded interesting. After all, chocolate flavored with chili pepper is a big thing, and even M&Ms makes a cinnamon-flavored version (though if the loaded clearance racks at Target were any indication, cinnamon M&Ms were not a rousing success). Chai is basically a tea heavily flavored with cinnamon and similar “warm” spices, so I thought it might mix well with chocolate. So:
Instead of mixing the chai mix with water (according to its directions) then adding some chocolate, I made my basic chocolate pop and mixed in a heaping teaspoon of the chai mix (for two pops).
These pops turned out way better than I’d expected. If I had to describe the flavor, it would be like chocolate covered gingerbread. The combination was interesting and delicious. Why hasn’t Starbucks jumped on this already? I would totally buy a mocha chai latte.
